Learn about stars, planets, more while learning about Henrietta Leavitt, one of the first woman astronomers.
Be dazzled by the stars! Be amazed by the universe! Explore astronomy and find out what pioneering woman astronomer Henrietta Leavitt found irresistible about the cosmos, leading her to become one of the first female astronomers to make breakthrough discoveries in astronomy. We will get to see a short presentation from the stage play about Ms. Leavitt's life, Silent Sky, presented by Artists' Ensemble Theater and then let our imaginations soar to the stars and get a controlled look at the night sky in a portable inflatable planetarium presented by The Discovery Center Museum. Use your eyes to hop from constellation to constellation, identify a Cepheid variable star, compare magnitudes, star colors, and more.
This program is co-sponsored by Discovery Center Museum and will be held in conjunction with the panel discussion Women Astronomers Then and Now, an adult panel discussion about the history and current status of women in astronomy today, which will be going on across the hall.
Look Up is designed for ages 8-12 audience. Space is limited to 30 participants.
