By the time of the National Park System centennial ('16), David Kroese of Loves Park had visited 387 parks, proceeding to become one of the few to have visited all 417. Come & enjoy his talk & slides!
David Kroese, author of the 2019 book The Centennial: A Journey through America's National Park System, visited all the sites - from Alaska to Puerto Rico, including the new 418th unit, Camp Nelson National Monument in Kentucky. Camp Nelson was a Union recruitment and training center for African American soldiers during the Civil War and refugee camp for their wives and children. There will be a Q&A, and if you'd like to submit a question ahead of time for possible inclusion in his presentation, email it to znorwood@rockfordpubliclibrary.org by May 12. Book sales ($30/copy) and signing will follow the presentation.
