This virtual event, requiring registration, features author Anders Morley on his enthralling memoir of skiing across Canada. The Natural Land Institute is co-sponsor. Questions? Call Zoe 815-987-6626.
Anders Morley - a writer, teacher, and translator - is a dual-citizen of the US and Canada. While happily married and living far away from there, his love for winter and life-long desire to go for a long, long walk kept entering his thoughts, until he did it! Four fiercely cold months later, he'd completed a solo journey on skis across "the half-wild country of northwestern Canada." Morley will talk about his book and the expedition, including photos from it, and then lead a discussion that will interest both those who've read the book and those who haven't. This eloquent memoir is "a thoughtful and sometimes humorous reckoning of an adventure filled with adrenaline and exuberance, as well as mistakes and danger." It celebrates a season and a place, while providing glimpses into life at the edge of wilderness, the history of cold-weather exploration, and "one man's journey of self-discovery" [Booklist review]. Registrants will be emailed the WebEx link on the day of the event, for joining with a laptop, tablet, or phone.
